waiting for paint to dry

Err, so, my apologies for being totally lame at blogging.

I would like to blame it on the fact that we do not really have internet- we simply steal it from our kind neighbors to the west. Sometimes it works inside, sometimes not. The only sure way is to sit outside on our patio (3/5 bars as opposed to 1/5 for "signal strength"). But alas, I rarely type much of anything I intend to keep while online. Write/save it in Word, then copy+paste wherever need be. So really, no excuse.

This evening I am busy waiting for paint to dry. "Protective Finish," to be exact. My dining room table and chairs have been getting a bit dirty, and when I went to Target for a remedy I found that nearly all wood cleaning products say not to use on unfinished wood. Well, I have unfinished wood. So I am finishing it. This is proving to be a slow project in that we do not get the newspaper, and I recently took out ALL of our recycling/garbage, and my neighbors did not answer their door- so I have four paper bags from Marlene's cut textbook-covering-style to cover the floor with. Two chairs at a time + 2 hours between each coat + 3 coats required x 4 chairs and a table = lots of down time. Now that I have sufficiently bored you to tears, I suppose I should move on…

I recently watched a couple cool documentaries. How to Draw a Bunny (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0303348/) and Sketches of Frank Gehry (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0446784/). Unrelated, but equally enlightening in my mind. I knew zilch about Ray Johnson or Frank Gehry, and I am now quite intrigued with the both of them. Ray Johnson being an artist- his death (suicide) being his most brilliant work, and Frank Gehry being an architect- creating the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbau, Spain, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in LA, and (to all those Seattle folks) the Experience the Music Project building. Pretty rad. If you are in the mood for a documentary, I suggest these.

Alright- time is up and the sanding block is calling my name.

I will try to update more often. In the meantime, check out my flickr account (link is to your right) which I have, in fact, updated as of yesterday. Take care, more soon.

we have to talk about Frank Gerhy. I have very mixed feelings about it. Though it is very cool you watched a documentary on the fellow. BTW the best documentary I've seen of late is Helvetica. It rocks, even if you don't care that much about typefaces.
